The accredited seminar Village libraries as information and communication hubs of rural local communities (Example of the project Agricultural Libraries in Jagodina) was held on Saturday, 14th November 2015, in the Public Library Stevan Sremac in Niš.
Librarians from Niš, Aleksinac, Gadžin Han, Doljevac, Merošina, Ražanj and Svrljig attended the seminar.
Vesna Crnković, the Jagodina Library director, talked about rural library branches and the problem of insufficiently-developed libraries in rural areas, the origin and implementation of the project Agricultural Libraries in Jagodina, and the concept of work and marketing in a modern village library.
Svetlana Krstić, a village librarian in Bagrdan, talked about the role of a village librarian in the project and changes in a local community.
Jelena Rajić, a librarian, introduced innovative projects of public libraries in some of the most developed countries in the world (examples of good practice).
The final part of the seminar was a workshop Idea fair-poster session. The librarians had to recognize problems in local communities and their libraries and propose project ideas as solutions.
The librarians worked in groups and their task was to think of an attractive and effective project title, define a problem and goals and objectives, necessary resources and potential partnerships, as well as project activities and measurable results.
Some of the project ideas referred to users who lived in remote areas, children with special needs, unemployed women, environment preservation, successful parenthood, etc.
At the end of the seminar, the participants were awarded certificates for attending the accredited program of continuous professional training.
